DRAWING INSPIRATION – EMILY GRAVETT

This is my second visit to Hay Festival, and the sun has shone. Hurrah! (I forgot to pack my wellies.) I’m here to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the publication of my first book Wolves, but I’ve also fitted in events with the amazing AF Harrold whose book The Imaginary I illustrated last year, and a panel event with the illustrator/authors Yasmeen Ismail and Chris Haughton. All three events have been vastly different. AF is a force of nature and was born to be on a stage. I kept my mouth shut and drew. Bliss! The illustrator panel was fantastic. I love Yasmeen and Chris’s work, and I think we could have talked all night. Finally I just finished my solo event. It was the most nerve-wracking of the three as I was trying out something new, but I think it went well. Faces were smiling, there was plenty of shouting and no-one cried or left. It’s time to go home.
