It was a shame that great Welsh Rugby man Shane Williams cancelled because he was due to be followed by Nigel Mansell. I had all sorts of bon mots ready for the comparison – Williams nippy on the wing, never finding touch, Mansell scratching his wing as he found the barrier: that type of tosh. Mansell, though, was a revelation on his own. No ‘tache’ for starters. Finally he has the confidence to reveal himself? And however fast he drove he speaks in a monotone that reduces everything to the verbal equivalent of 20mph. Oh, and he’s still pleased he beat Schumacher because he’s German. But, like Schumacher, he still racing and breaking records – heading for Le Mans to become the first father and two sons team in the 24 hour race’s history. Who needs words?
